Yeardley Love was killed in 2010 by her ex-boyfriend, George Huguely V.

As parents send their children off to college or high school, one organization with roots here in Baltimore wants moms and dads as well as students to remember their safety in relationships is extremely important.

“We never teach children about what a healthy relationship looks like,” said Sharon Love, mother of Yeardley Love.

Yeardley Love was a 22-year-old University of Virginia lacrosse player who was killed by her ex-boyfriend, George Huguely, while attending the college as a senior. Yeardley grew up in Baltimore County and was a graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School.

The One Love Foundation continues her legacy by teaching and offering workshops on what to look for when it comes to abusive relationships.

Sharon Love said she didn’t realize abuse in dating relationships was so rampant until she started the organization and began talking to students ages 16 to 24.

Love said progress is being made as more and more young people learn the signs of an unhealthy relationship.
